That’s the amount of money Kiradech Aphibarnrat had in his bank account when he bought his first car, a bright orange Lamborghini for just over $150,000. This just about sums up the life of the man commonly known as Barn Rat.
Path to Turning Pro
Before I get ahead of myself, let me give you some background into Kiradech’s life. He was born in Bangkok, Thailand with the name Anujit Hirunratanakorn but changed it after being advised to do so by his parents for what is considered good luck in Thai tradition. (Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Barnrat or I’d be doomed) Kiradech turned Pro in 2008 after a successful junior career which saw him win two titles and a gold medal for his team at the 2007 Summer Universiade.
Kiradech started his career in 2008 on the Asian Tour, and subsequently the Japan Pro Tour in 2009. There, he had his first victory at the 2009 Mercedes Benz Tour’s Singha Pattaya Open, which he won by 11 strokes, Aphibarnrat’s first Asian Tour win was at the 2011 Sail Open. Barnrat worked his way up the ranks, eventually making it to Europe’s highest stage, the European Tour in 2013.
Now that you got to this point, you get to enjoy the fun stuff ….
The Rise of A Legend
Aphibarnrat’s first victory on the European Tour was in 2013 at the Malaysian Open. He won again two years later at the Shenzhen International and a few months later at the Paul Lawrie Match Play championship became the youngest Asian player ever to win three European Tour events.

What a line. “I am a guy who doesn’t really save money”. The man spent ALL of his earnings on watches right from the get go. Aphibarnrat has more fancy watches than he can count, topped by a Richard Mille watch that was gifted to him by the royal family, valued at over 1.5 million dollars.
Not just that but he plans to buy more and said: “I have a lot of work to do. That’s why I play a lot around the world, that you guys see. I spend a lot of it on all that stuff.” That’s why he plays golf. Not for the fame, the glory, the money to buy a house or raise a family. Nope. He wins them for the watches.

However, I think he’s lying, or at least exaggerating a little bit when he says he spends all of his money on watches. I mean he diversifies a bit and spends them on cars. Just last year he bought a white Ferrari with the reason of “If I go anywhere, everybody knows there’s only one in Thailand,”Aphibarnrat said. “So that’s the key why I had to buy white.“. Now that’s big dick energy.
He’s also an avid shoe collector, owning over 30 pairs, some of which he paid 5+ figures for. Here’s how valuable they are: At the Olympics in Rio, thieves broke into Aphibarnrat’s locker which had his shoes, his wallet, his laptop and a $25,000 trackman and all they took were the shoes. Welcome to 2019 ladies and gents.
The man often referred to as the Asian John Daly is a larger-than-life character. Spending all his money on fine jewelry and cars while simultaneously rising the ranks of professional golf (currently 41st). He has won 11 times as a professional and along with his self created logo has become almost a cult like figure in the golfing world.
“I think I have about seven cars,” he said. “Ferrari is my favourite brand because it has the character. I just love fancy cars. I feel like every time I get really stressed in my golf game, I go out there on the road with no one beside me.”
Oh, last but not least did I mention he kicked his smoking habit and now vapes. So when asked “Do you even vape bro?” he can now confidently say that he does.
