Phil Mickelson is arguably the greatest left-handed player to ever play golf. That’s just in case you didn’t know why they call him “Lefty”. Mickelson has won 44 times on the PGA Tour including five Major championships as of February 2019. He is, and has been, one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour for almost 3 decades now. (1) How Many Majors has Phil Mickelson Won?

Phil has won 5 Major championships. These championships include three Masters, one Open Championship, and one PGA Championship. The wins at Augusta National came in 2004, 2006, and 2010. His green jacket performance in 2010 was his most impressive Masters victory when he finished 16-under to win by 3 strokes.

Mickelson’s Open Championship victory came in 2013 at the 142nd Open. The event was held at the Muirfield Golf Links in Gullane, Scotland. Phil began the final round 5 strokes back. He went on to shoot a final round 66 (5-under) to beat runner-up Henrik Stenson by  3 strokes.

The lone PGA Championship for Mickelson came in 2005. The 87th PGA Championship held at Baltursol Golf Club Lower Course in Springfield, NJ, was Phil’s most dramatic Major victory. On the final hole after hitting the ball into nasty rough, Phil hit an incredibly clutch flop shot to 2 feet. He sank the birdie put and took home the trophy winning by 1 stroke.

(2) Has Phil Mickelson Won the U.S. Open?

Unfortunately, if you are a big time fan of Lefty, the only Major he has not won is the U.S. Open. Phil has always played very well at this tournament, having 6 runner-up finishes, but has never been able to put it all together and win the United States’ National Championship.

There’s no doubt that Phil comes to play when a Major is at stake. He has had 27 top-five finishes in Majors during his already outstanding career. He has had 15 top-10 finishes at the Masters from 26 attempts, as well.

Mickelson has never won the Fedex Cup. He has played in 12 Presidents Cups and 12 Ryder Cups.

(5) When did Phil Mickelson start playing Golf?

Phil started playing golf at 18 months old. No we are unsure how that can be. That would only make him just over a year old. He was destined to be a great golfer from the start!

(6) Did Phil Mickelson Win the U.S. Amateur?

Phil is one of only five players to win the U.S. Amateur and NCAA Championship title in the same season. (The others are Bryson Dechambeau, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Ryan Moore)

Tim Mickelson was the head golf coach at Arizona State prior to being Phil’s caddie, coaching PGA Tour standout John Rahm. After Rahm graduated and joined the tour, Mickelson took on the role of being his agent working at Lagardere Sports. Due to conflict of interest (and a whole hell of lot of work as a Phil’s full-time caddie) Tim is no longer representing Rahm.

(9) Who is Phil Mickelson’s Coach?

Phil’s swing coach is Andrew Getson from Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

(10) Where did Phil Mickelson go to College?

He attended Arizona State University and was a four-time All-American there. Mickelson was one of only 4 collegiate golfers to ever be named 4-time All-American. David Duval of Georgia Tech, Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech, and Gary Hallberg of Wake Forest are the other 3.

Mickelson graduated from ASU in 1992 with a degree in psychology.

Phil’s wife’s name is Amy Mickelson. Phil and Amy married in 1996 and have three children. Their names are Amanda, Sophia and Evan.

Interesting Phil Mickelson Facts

(12) Mickelson is an avid pilot following in the footsteps of his father who was a Navy pilot.

(13) Phil was the last amateur to win a PGA Tour title, the 1991 Northern Telecom Open.

(14) He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2012.

(15) Phil surprisingly has never been world number one.

(16) Mickelson owns a private jet to get between golf tournaments.

(17) Mickelson teamed up with Roger Cleveland to create the Callaway Mack Daddy PM Grind wedge. He has also helped design the Titleist 731PM irons.

(18) And the most interesting fact of them all… The man known as ‘Lefty’ is actually right handed, and the only thing he does left-handed is play golf. Yes we did not know that either. Still in a bit of shot as I write this.
